WorldatWork Applauds New Workplace Flexibility Partnership

Feb. 9, 2011 — Washington, D.C. — WorldatWork congratulates the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Families and Work Institute (FWI) for forging a partnership to advance the way businesses view and adopt flexible workplace practices.

“Recognizing the powerful impact work-life strategies can have on business performance, WorldatWork acquired Alliance for Work-Life Progress (AWLP) seven years ago to educate reward professionals on the need to integrate work-life as part of total rewards,” said Anne C. Ruddy, president of WorldatWork. “The new partnership between SHRM and FWI is sure to enrich and expand the dialogue further by raising awareness within the broader human resources community.”

“It’s exciting to see workplace flexibility gaining momentum and be increasingly accepted as a strategic business tool,” said Kathie Lingle, executive director of AWLP. “As I reflect on the decades of the work-life movement, this partnership stands out as a significant development.”

To foster in-depth knowledge and understanding of employers’ views on flexibility, WorldatWork will publish a new complimentary study, Flexibility Practices 2010, in mid-February. The findings reveal that, while most modern workplaces offer a variety of flexibility programs, one area sorely lacking is training. Indeed, a vast majority (79%) of U.S. organizations that offer flexibility programs report they do not provide training to managers of employees using such programs. Recognizing this gap, WorldatWork offers tools and resources for employers and managers as well as training and certification for human resource practitioners to become a Work-Life Certified Professional™ (WLCP®) through the WorldatWork Society of Certified Professionals®. The WorldatWork work-life body of knowledge goes beyond workplace flexibility and includes dependent care, health and wellness, financial supports, paid and unpaid time off, community involvement, and culture change.
