Scripps Health Implements Presagia Enterprise Software for Leave Management

San Diego, CA, April 4, 2011 — Presagia, the leading developer of web-based solutions for workforce health and absence management, today announced that Scripps Health in California is successfully using Presagia Enterprise’s Leave Module. Scripps, a California-based health network which includes Scripps Mercy Hospital, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and Encinitas, and Scripps Green Hospital, selected Presagia’s solution in October 2010 to bring its leave management in-house. Scripps has been administering leave for its 13,000 employees using the web-based leave management solution since mid-January 2011.

Scripps approached Presagia in October 2010, looking to bring its leave management in-house after outsourcing for a number of years. This represented a fundamental shift in Scripps’ leave management strategy and a comprehensive software solution was required to support it. Susanna Walden, Absence Management Plan Administrator at Scripps explains: “The decision to bring leave back in house is about asserting greater control over our leave policies which will allow us to manage leave more accurately and have full access to our data for reporting and analysis. As well, we will reduce our direct leave administration costs with this solution.”

During their search for a software solution, Scripps looked at many of Presagia’s competitors. In the end, Scripps chose Presagia because of the depth of the system and the built-in decision support features provided to leave managers throughout leave request/approval processes. These decision support resources include explanations of leave regulations, automatic calculations of eligibility and entitlement, and wizards that guide users through steps such as medical certification review, and are a major differentiator of Presagia’s solution. It also chose Presagia because it needed the ability to run analytical reports in real-time on its own schedule instead of having to make requests to its leave services vendor and then wait for delivery.

“We were impressed by Presagia’s ability to help us transition to their system rapidly, and by the breadth of leave management expertise built into their solution and the corresponding amount of decision support that is available to leave managers. This includes tools like the Knowledge base which overviews federal and state leave regulations,” said Ms. Walden. As well, Presagia offers Employee Self-Service via an online web portal. Employee Self-Service is valuable to hospitals and other 24-hour workplaces because it enables employees to request leaves at virtually anytime, not only during standard business hours, and it can significantly reduce administrative burden on the HR department.

Now Scripps is successfully using Presagia’s leave management solution to administer FMLA, California Family Responsibility Act, California Pregnancy Disability, and company policies. Scripps and Presagia are continuing to work together to implement an interface to continuously feed leave-case data from Presagia Enterprise to Scripps’ HR system and to roll out the Employee Self-Service Portal which will allow each employee to submit leave requests and upload medical certifications via the web. The Employee Self-Service Portal will also enable employees to find out their degree of eligibility and entitlement for various types of leave, without even submitting a leave request.
