Woburn, MA – June 8, 2014 – HealthcareSource(R), the leading provider of talent management solutions for the healthcare industry, recently held a live webinar for hospital administrators focused on educational strategies to manage the ICD-10 delay and help staff to make informed decisions for their organization.
Featuring industry thought leaders Brigid Flood and Angie Comfort of American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), and Michelle Leavitt of HealthcareSource, the 1-hour event presented the educational strategies that would benefit healthcare organizations that have been challenged by the delay.
The strategies included continued organization-wide ICD-10 education, a focus on clinical documentation integrity, and providing maintenance education to coders through targeted training, dual coding, and online case studies. The presenters also provided attendees with insight into the ICD-10 delay and discussed the value of focused and appropriate training, specific to the different staff groupings of a hospital.
“Once the ICD-10 implementation date was changed, we saw that healthcare administrators began to feel uncertain about their existing ICD-10 education plans. Organizations aren’t sure if they should continue on as planned or revise the training timeline. Some organizations have even considered halting their ICD-10 education for the time being,” says Michelle Leavitt, Director of Courseware and Product Strategy at HealthcareSource. “We felt it was important to hold these events so administrators can make informed decisions for their organizations. Regardless of where you are in the ICD-10 education cycle, there are steps that can and should be taken.”
