The Insala 2012 Career Development Survey Report offers insight into what organizations are providing, primary business reason for employee career development, which career development activities are most effective, and how companies communicate information about their career development programs.

The most notable findings of the 320 HR professional survey respondents is the use of a more collaborative social learning approach to career development. For director-level and above, the most effective career development program offerings are:

1. Performance-driven coaching (52%)
2. Special projects or situational challenges (42%)
3. Mentoring 1-on-1 (36%)

For all other employees below director level, the most effective career development program offerings are:

1. Traditional Training (50%)
2. Mentoring 1-on-1 (39%)
4. Special projects or situational challenges (37%)

Nearly half of survey respondents indicate that employees received information about their career development program through a company intranet, with one third of the respondents indicating that they integrate employee data to help complete employee profiles.
