Time to Evolve the Annual Performance Review – But with What?

(Boston, MA) – kCura and Interaction Associates (IA) will present a new strategy for annual performance appraisals at the Human Capital Institute’s Learning and Leadership Development Conference on September 20, 2016 in Boston.

kCura’s Chief People Officer, Dorie Blesoff, will present the company’s history and evolution of performance reviews. The session will cover kCura’s path from annual to monthly performance coaching and lessons learned.

Drawing on models developed by Interaction Associates, the session will also include a practical recommendation for a critical mindset shift and three key management skills and tools to accomplish timely feedback, support for career development, and shared ownership for results.

Interaction Associates is one of the world’s authorities on building collaborative leadership skills. For nearly 50 years, the firm has developed and demonstrated practical, simple, proven methods of successful collaboration- to help organizations succeed.

As the developer of the e-discovery software Relativity, kCura is one of the fastest growing tech companies in the U.S. Today kCura employs more than 600 driven and talented team members in the United States, United Kingdom, Poland, Australia, and Hong Kong. kCura’s culture was founded on a strong set of core values that have now been embedded into the selection, performance management, and learning and development processes as a way of sustaining a healthy culture during rapid growth.

kCura partnered with Interaction Associates (IA) to cultivate and reinforce the mind set and the skill set shift needed to implement the ongoing feedback process.

“The effectiveness of annual performance reviews – a longtime mainstay of most organizations – is being questioned by a growing chorus of critics who cite their shortcomings for shaping performance improvement,” said Barry Rosen, CEO of Interaction Associates. “We are honored to have assisted kCura in preparation of their managers to deliver a more relevant process for assessing performance and developing talent,” he added.

The shortcomings of annual performance reviews are receiving much attention in the mainstream media and across the business world. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, 95% of employees are dissatisfied with their company’s appraisal process, and 90% don’t believe the process provides accurate information.

“One of the challenges in a rapidly growing organization is that leaders must ensure that delivery of business results and development of their people occur simultaneously. More timely and consistent feedback helps both leaders and team members to succeed short and long-term,” said Dorie Blesoff, chief people officer at kCura. “We are excited to share our experience with a larger community of how monthly performance coaching can promote alignment, engagement and development.”
