Michael C. Fina Receives Women-Owned Business Certification From Womens Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC)

April 12, 2010 — Long Island City, NY — Seventy-five years after being co-founded by entrepreneur Rose Fina, Michael C. Fina, a leading provider of global employee recognition solutions, has received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women Presidents’ Educational Organization (WPEO), a regional affiliate of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

WBENC’s national standard of certification implemented by WPEO is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women.

By including women-owned businesses among their vendors, corporations and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier/vendor diversity programs.

“When my grandmother co-founded this company in 1935 there weren’t very many women-owned businesses, and there certainly wasn’t anything like WBENC certification to help those businesses to grow,” said Ashley Fina, President of Michael C. Fina. “We’ve come a long way and larger companies recognize the need to implement diversity policies and procurement programs, and there’s as strong of a need as ever for advocacy and support through organizations like the WPEO. This WBENC certification status will help us to expand our company’s visibility and enable us to build relationships with key decision makers at companies that place value and emphasis on working with women-owned businesses.”
