AFI Bolsters Security Services with Appointment of Two New Corporate Investigation Managers

TORONTO, June 21, 2011/MILTON, ON — AFI International, North America’s leader in crisis management and response, is pleased to announce the appointment of Chad Hanlon and Brad Trew as managers of corporate investigations, reporting to Desmond Taljaard, National Vice President of Investigations and Security Services. They assume their respective positions effective immediately.

“We are thrilled to welcome these skilled operations managers to our investigative team,” says Desmond Taljaard, National Vice President of Investigations and Security Services. “With their appointment, we are now better able to serve companies across North America with the personalized professional guidance and expert investigative services required to mitigate liability issues”

Chad Hanlon’s role focuses on frontline contact with HR management personnel and other AFI clients. His primary goal will be to educate them on any new legislation potentially affecting their company and employees and to provide them with security resources and information to reduce their liability.

His career began in private investigations with a large firm in London, Ontario. There, he worked on labour strikes, undercover assignments in corporations (dealing with issues such as theft and substance abuse) and, notably, on one major assignment that led to 21 terminations. From private investigations, he joined the Waterloo Police Force as a special constable. In this capacity, he worked for 9 years on challenging assignments such as guarding high risk inmates in prison and in psychiatric hospitals.

“With the advent of new legislation like Bill 168, companies today must take action on incidents that a year ago were `keep your head in the sand’ matters,” says Hanlon. “Wherever there is potential for violence or chaos, you must show you have done your due diligence.”

Brad Trew’s role focuses on managing the investigative security operations that are underway at AFI. His mandate is to ensure every WSIB investigation, undercover surveillance operation, high risk termination, workplace violence assignment (and other projects) run smoothly and successfully for the client.

Trew has worked in corporate investigations since 1989. He managed operations for Canpar Transport right across Canada and for Purolator Courier through western Canada and in select north-western states. Just prior to joining AFI, he was a private investigator conducting private surveillance work for a number of high profile clients.

“The business world is becoming increasingly competitive and it is more essential than ever to protect your liability and your bottom line,” says Trew. “The most important thing is due diligence — and the worst thing you can do is do nothing.”
