HealthcareSource Unveils Winners of Talent-in-Talent Award

WOBURN, Mass. — April 28, 2010 — HealthcareSource®, the leading provider of talent management solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced the recipients of its first Talent-in-Talent Award — Christine Durigg, Director of Staffing and Recruitment at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio and Judy Whipp Mills, Employment Manager at Valley Health in Winchester, Virginia.

The Talent-in-Talent Award recognizes clients who have demonstrated the highest level of talent, proficiency, and competency in healthcare talent management and in addition have used this talent to teach others and support the advancement of healthcare HR professionals. Candidates must also show a commitment to professional development, a successful application of knowledge, and contribute to the greater healthcare HR community. Winners receive an extensive package of education and career-enhancing opportunities.

“We evaluated a number of very good candidates for these awards, but Judy and Chris best represented the purpose of the Talent-in-Talent award — doing great things at work and sharing those ideas with the healthcare HR community,” said Deborah Slayden, HR Manager, VCU Medical Center, a member of the HealthcareSource Strategic Advisory Council, which selected the winners among a group of finalists.

Christine Durigg, Director of Staffing at Cleveland Clinic was recognized for demonstrating talent management practices in an array of areas. As project leader, Durigg successfully implemented a significant enterprise-wide standardization process for recruitment at Cleveland Clinic. Durigg also demonstrated creativity by proactively tapping community resources to expand applicant pools, resulting in a faster, more efficient hiring process. “My goal is for recruiters to develop pools of applicants for entry level positions, so that when a new requisition is approved, we already have a pool of applicants and do not need to post the position to obtain hundreds of applications.” Durigg helped to bring technology to a more efficient use and advanced Cleveland Clinic to the forefront of internet and social media recruiting, with networking sites, social media involvement, search engine optimization, and more. “I’ve driven change with my staff and taught them not to be afraid of social media, but to explore and see what is out there and not to rely on old school recruitment methods.” Durigg supports and gives back to the healthcare HR community by actively participating in the Greater Cleveland Healthcare Recruiters Group, the HealthcareSource Community and User Conference, and volunteering for the United Way.

Judy Whipp Mills, Employment Manager at Valley Health was recognized for her exceptional talents in networking, teaching, and learning. Mills gives back to the healthcare HR community through active participation in WASHRM, SHRM, VaSHHRA, VHHA, as the HR representative for the Economic Development Committee of Winchester/Frederick County and by educating high school students on careers in the healthcare industry through Come Explore Nursing. “I have always believed in giving back to the community that has given so much to me as a native of the Winchester area.” At Valley Health, Mills helped achieve dramatic results through the successful implementation of HealthcareSource and other technology to improve efficiency in their recruitment process. Among these accomplishments are: a system-wide paperless requisition and application system, system-wide consistency with hiring practices by monthly meetings with HR representation from each site to develop consistent policies and procedures, improved criminal background checking, automated the onboarding process, implemented a system-wide contract/agency online system for order entry and booking of staff, and developed advertising guidelines to strategically run ads as a system, resulting in the reduction of advertising costs by $300,000 in 2009. “We’ve accomplished a great deal for the health system and for our patients and employees as well — which is very rewarding.”

“Managing talent is different in the healthcare industry — there are different pressures, different constraints and different relationships than in commercial businesses, Healthcare HR takes a commitment to learning and sharing.” said Peter Segall, President and CEO of HealthcareSource. “We are proud to honor these two outstanding individuals. Chris and Judy are great examples of how hard work and building relationships pays dividends in this industry.”
