Hogan Award for Personality and Work Performance to award innovation in applied personality research.

TULSA, OK, April 13, 2011 — In an outstanding show of dedication to the advancement of Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Drs. Joyce and Robert Hogan this week established an annual research award through the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology Foundation.

The Hogan Award for Personality and Work Performance, the latest of only five awards funded through the SIOP Foundation, acknowledges research that furthers the understanding of personality as it relates to job performance.

Dr. Robert Hogan, president at Hogan Assessment Systems and an international authority on personality assessment, leadership and organizational effectiveness, said the award is important to spur continued innovation around the subject.

“SIOP has been the world epicenter for applied personality research for the past 20 years,” Dr. Hogan said. “The purpose of the Hogan Award is to keep the flame alive, to insure that SIOP continues to be a major source of innovative applied personality research.”

Presented annually, the Hogan Award will recognize the best paper on personality and job performance, published or unpublished, from the previous year.

Successful entries will:

• Have a sound scientific base
• Show innovation and excellence
• Advance understanding of how personality is related to competent occupational performance
• Be dated the previous year
• Be submitted by members of SIOP

Dr. Milton Hakel, president of the SIOP Foundation, said the award honors the Hogans, whose exemplary and groundbreaking work has established a legacy of excellence in the I-O Psychology profession.

“Clear conceptualization and compelling data are hallmarks of the Hogans’ work,” Dr. Hakel said. “The Hogan Award will reinforce those attributes in our field and stimulate work that advances the practice of evidence-based human resource management.”

The Hogan Award for Personality and Work Performance will be presented annually beginning in 2012, and will carry a $1,500 cash prize.
