New Online Certification Empowers Mentoring Program Managers

Chestnut Hill, MA, June 21, 2011 — Management Mentors, a company that designs and implements world-class business mentoring programs for companies, nonprofits, and universities, announced its new online certification course for mentoring program managers (MPM).

The course is Web-based, so users only need access to the Internet and a browser in order to complete the course, which will take approximately five hours. The cost is $159.

The inspiration behind this online certification course? People in a wide variety of organizations have been asking for it. Rene Petrin, founder and president of Management Mentors, said, “We receive regular and repeated requests from clients and prospective customers alike asking if there’s a way to become a certified MPM through an online course. We live in a 24/7 global world, and not everyone has the bandwidth for traditional course instruction, which we conduct onsite during business hours. But a course that people can complete when it’s convenient for them? That’s the ideal. So we created it.”

This online course is a “level 1” certification. The traditional onsite mentoring program manager certification is over one hundred contact hours, while this online course is only five hours. “Even though it’s fewer hours than the traditional certification, it’s still a solid primer into the role a mentoring program manager plays,” Petrin said. “It will definitely prepare a person to take on the MPM position.” Additional online certification levels are in the works, and a free thought paper is available for download at that discusses six ways to leverage the mentoring certification. The course complements other product offerings from Management Mentors, including MentoringComplete and CoachingComplete.

Topics covered include how mentoring differs from other professional development systems, the role of the mentoring program manager in effective mentoring, how to design professional and business mentoring programs, how to implement mentoring within an organization, various methods available to create effective matches, and the most common challenges faced in mentoring programs and mentoring relationships and how to meet these challenges.
