UBA Names Mark S. Gaunya, GBA of Borislow Insurance, "Partner of the Year"

In recognition of his work with UBA’s Private Insurance Exchange Committee, Gaunya is chosen for his contribution among 140 Partner Firms

Indianapolis, IN, [July 24, 2013] ⎯ United Benefit Advisors (UBA), one of the nation’s leading independent employee benefits advisory organizations, has announced the results of its annual ‘Ubbie Awards’ with Mark S. Gaunya, GBA receiving the ‘Partner of the Year’ award for 2012.

Gaunya is recognized for his vital contribution and ongoing involvement with UBA’s Private Insurance Exchange Committee, which has served the organization greatly in the face of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), and helped UBA become a leading provider of health care reform compliance content.

“UBA is committed to being on the leading edge of employee benefits, and is passionate about bringing strategic solutions to our clients and their employees,” Gaunya said. “I am honored to accept the Partner of the Year award on behalf of the work done with the Private Insurance Exchange Committee and Rhonda Marcucci, UBA’s consultant to the project. It is a pleasure and privilege to work with so many dedicated people on this innovative and potentially game-changing initiative.”

The Ubbie Awards are in recognition of innovation, quality of work, professionalism and contributions to programs that enhance business practices for the greater good of the entire organization. Award recipients must contribute to the development of resources and education necessary to help employers effectively manage their employee benefits and assist in the recruitment and retention of the best people.

UBA gained significant industry awareness in 2012 and 2013, a result of Partners who, like Gaunya, worked diligently behind the scenes and covered timely PPACA legislation topics to help educate employers and keep the organization ahead of the fast-moving details. Mark Gaunya is recognized for his dedication to helping Partners become better prepared for upcoming changes as employees move to insurance exchanges established as a result of health care reform.

Gaunya is a Principal at Borislow Insurance and has more than 24 years of experience in the employee benefits industry. Mark co-authored Bend the Healthcare Trend, a book written to address how Consumer-Driven Health and Wellness Plans lower insurance costs. He has been quoted and published regionally and nationally in the Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Boston Business Journal, Health-Plan Inter-Study, Round the Table magazine, Insurance News Net and Employee Benefit News. Mark also authors a monthly blog as a member of the Employee Benefit Adviser Editorial Board and has been a featured speaker at Million Dollar Round Table, Top of the Table, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and Employee Benefit News as well as various industry associations around the country.

Thomas Mangan, CEO of UBA says, “Mark’s diligence in preparing for the PIE has been, and will continue to be, crucial to our Partner Firms, their clients, and those clients’ employees. His outstanding effort is exactly what the Ubbie Awards were designed to recognize.”

The Ubbie Award announcements came at UBA’s 2013 Spring Conference held in Rosemont, Ill., which saw a record attendance of nearly 500 employee benefit and financial advisors and Strategic Partners. UBA’s annual Spring Meeting is an opportunity for UBA thought leaders to discuss the rapidly changing benefits industry and what is required of successful advisor firms looking to stay ahead of emerging trends.
