AFI International Provides Information to Assist Halton Police Investigate Milton Break-In

MILTON, ON May 5, 2011 – AFI International, North America’s leader in crisis management and response, provided information to assist Halton Police Services investigate a break-in at the construction site next door to AFI’s headquarters at 8160 Parkhill Drive in Milton, Ontario.

The incident took place in the very early hours over a weekend when a suspicious vehicle entered the site under construction for Phoenix Contact Ltd. AFI’s cameras were successful in capturing activity, now being reviewed by Halton Police services.

“Although AFI was not contracted to safeguard this site, we had as a neighbourly courtesy, repositioned a number of our 36 security cameras to take in some of the property when construction commenced” says Todd McKinley, AFI director of security systems and technology, “Our sister company ASAP Secured Inc. offers specialized construction site security services, so we are well aware of potential incidents on construction sites”. AFI’s 36 security cameras work in tandem with several other security features at AFI headquarters including biometric fingerprint access readers and shatter proof security windows.

According to Stephen Anderson, AFI vice president, who reviewed the camera footage along with McKinley, close to 30 minutes was spent on the property both inside the building and around the storage units that typically hold valuable equipment and supplies – although the value of damage and theft was unknown at the time. “The video we captured on Dome 5 of a vehicle is very strong…and will no doubt be a great asset in assisting an investigation.” says Anderson “I commend Halton Police for liaising with us and their diligence on this investigation.”

“Construction site theft and vandalism is definitely a problem that is on the rise across North America,” says Anderson, “We offer security services for construction sites through ASAP Secured Inc. including security personnel, cameras and often a mobile command centre which is a great deterrent for would-be thieves — and it’s an offering that is more regularly being requested by insurance companies. This incident shows how valuable the service is — especially for insurance companies that can save thousands of dollars in theft claims if a site was secured with a company like ASAP.”
