APS Releases Manager Self Service to its Mobile App

(APS), a provider of best-in-class workforce management technology, announced the release of Manager Self Service on its mobile app. These system enhancements simplify and automate staff-related tasks to reduce the burden placed on managers.

Last year challenged many managers to handle time and labor tasks in a remote setting. APS recognized the need for streamlined managerial functions on the go and began developing the Manager Self Service (MSS) side of its existing mobile application. Developed in-house on APS’ proprietary all-in-one platform, MSS mobile streamlines payroll and HR tasks for managers.

Actionable Alerts and Menus

Main Menu

The main menu provides an overview of the different MSS mobile sections, including:

Alerts, Approve Time Cards, Staff, Time Cards, Clock Status, Time Off Requests, Upcoming Dates, and Staff In Overtime. At any time, a manager can switch from Manager Self Service to employee self-service (ESS) mode.

Actionable Alerts

Managers can view essential tasks on the Alerts page so they can take immediate action. This consolidated view allows managers to prioritize the following:

  • Time-off requests
  • Unapproved time cards
  • Missed punches
  • Unapproved time
  • Time card comments
  • Employees in overtime
  • Upcoming dates (birthdays, anniversaries, and days off)

Time Card Changes, Clock Status, and Time Off Requests

Time Card Viewing and Editing

Managers can view and edit time cards in MSS mobile quickly without using a computer. Time cards are viewable for the current pay period or previous pay periods. Managers can also modify a time card for the current pay period before submitting it.

Time Card Approvals and Unapprovals

Managers can now view approved and unapproved time cards, and employees with no logged time. With the proper permissions, managers can also submit time on behalf of their teams.

Clock Status

The Clock Status Tab allows managers to view which employees are clocked in or out, on breaks, or at lunch. Clicking on an employee in this tab will display their shift, if applicable.

Time Off Requests

Managers can review all current time-off requests quickly and approve or deny them by logging into the Manager Self-Service desktop version.

Employee Information, Overtime, and Upcoming Dates

On the Staff screen, managers gain access to essential employee record information. Managers can view the following information by tapping on a specific employee:

  • Info: Personal demographic information, such as address and phone numbers, and employee details such as hire date and base department.
  • Contacts: Emergency contact information, including phone numbers.
  • Time Off: Unapproved and approved time-off requests, as well as accrual balances.


To help leaders stay on track with labor costs, they can view a list of employees approaching or in overtime.

Upcoming Dates

Managers can stay engaged with their workforce by viewing the Upcoming Dates tab. This information  includes:

  • Birthdays
  • Anniversaries
  • Time Off

Additional Manager Self Service App Features

There are additional features available in MSS mobile:

  • Missed Punches: Managers can view employee missed punches by tapping from either the Alerts menu or the main MSS mobile menu.
  • Time Card Comments: Managers can open alerts and view comments employees leave on their time cards for better communication with their staff.
